September 11: Chronicles 4 today by Br. Mekwi
Theme: The mature consider others
Text: 1 Corinthians 8:13 (NLT)
So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live—for I don’t want to cause another believer to stumble.
Reflection:
We live in the days when selfishness is the norm. People think about themselves and do everything to benefit the most from every relationship or deal they make. Somehow we have been taught that “it’s all about me, myself and I”. Unlike what is required of us as taught by the Lord Jesus Christ, people simply do not care about others.
Today’s reading teaches us that mature believers are willing to make sacrifices so that others may be saved. Such sacrifices will affect the food we eat, the associations we keep, the dresses we wear, the drinks we drink etc. While we may be allowed to do certain things and enjoy some blessings, maturity requires that we reject them because it may serve as a stumbling block for those who are weaker or younger in the faith. For their sake, we give up our rights.
Are you concerned about the welfare of other believers or the satisfaction of your desires? What sacrifices do you need to make so that others may grow in their faith? While the immature do not care about the growth of others and insist on their rights, the mature believer seeks the welfare of others and thus voluntarily makes sacrifices so that others may be saved and grow in their faith. God honours the sacrifices His children make for the growth of the brethren.
Prayer:
Father in the name of Jesus, give me the grace to make the necessary sacrifices so that others may be saved and grow in their faith. Amen
